Karen Hogle Brown

Karen Hogle Brown is a member of the Los Angeles Opera Chorus. A recent winner of the Beverly Hills recital series, she has soloed for the LA Philharmonic’s Green-Umbrella series, and won the 2007 small-ensemble Grammy with the Los Angeles Chamber Singer’s recording of Padilla: Sun of Justice. She has also been a soloist and member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, The Millennium Consort, Long Beach Opera, Opera a la Carte, Torrance Musical Theatre Company, Cabrillo Music Theatre, and many others -- shows include Carmen, La Perichole, Cendrillon, The Gondoliers, The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Secret Garden, Anything Goes, and LA Opera outreach shows: The Marriage of Figueroa and Friday Night at Hodge’s Café.. In addition, she has been a teaching artist since 2003 for several programs at the Los Angeles Opera including Voices for Tolerance, Opera Camp, and the In-School Opera. With the Los Angeles Master Chorale, she has taught for the song writing workshop Voices Within, and has performed with their outreach ensemble the LAMC Chamber Singers, which introduces students to choral music from around the world. She has conducted numerous children’s and youth choirs and is currently teaching voice at Pomona College the fall of 2010. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music from the University of Arizona, and can be heard on recordings by Linda Ronstadt, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, the recent Los Angeles Master Chorale’s A Good Understanding of Nico Muhly’s choral music, and Daniel Variations by Steve Reich, as well as movie soundtracks such as Avatar, Click, Lady in the Water, XMen:Wolverine, and License to Wed.
